ACT is delighted that construction director Scott Weir and commercial manager Derek Bain have both achieved the Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) Level 4 in Construction Site Management (Construction): Building and Civil Engineering at SCQF level 9.

The qualification is designed in partnership with CITB Sector Skills Council to ensure it is relevance to the industry. The SVQ is also jointly awarded with the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).

The highly relevant construction qualification covers areas such as developing and maintaining good working relationships; establishing, implementing and maintaining systems for managing health, safety and welfare; organising, controlling and monitoring supplies of materials; monitoring project activities; and controlling project quantities and costs.

This qualification allows people working in the construction industry to demonstrate competence in job-related skills, which in this case is construction management.

Derek said: “I really value the opportunity to further my professional development through training and qualifications while working with ACT. Due to the vocational nature of the course, it was rewarding to achieve recognition for the everyday systems and processes I employ.

“I am very pleased to have gained the award, which will allow me to obtain my CSCS Manager’s ‘Black Card’ for further recognition.”

ACT director Ken Godsman said: “It’s important to our company that we offer staff the opportunity for further learning in the industry. It is also of great benefit to ACT that two members of staff have achieved this recognisable SQV merit.”
