ACT sponsored athlete Ross Murdoch admits he was “quite disappointed” with his recent European Championships performance. However, the top Scottish swimmer has had time to reflect and has revealed many positives from the Glasgow event.
Ross, 24, who lives in Stirling, had previously enjoyed a very successful Commonwealth Games in 2014 when he took gold in the 200m breaststroke.
In the Euro Champs 2018 earlier his month, he was:
- 4th in the 200m breaststroke
- 10th in the 50m breaststroke
- 17th in the 100m breaststroke.

Ross Murdoch competes in Euro Champs 2018.
Ross said: “Although I never got to swim through the rounds on the 100m breaststroke, I swam my second fastest swim ever which is nothing to be disappointed in.
“My 200m breaststroke felt great through all the rounds but in the end it wasn’t to be. For the sake of 1 hundredth of a second (0.01), I could have had a bronze round my neck and if I had spotted my finish better, who knows, I may have come second.”
Ross also had a lot of praise for the support in his home country.

Ross enjoyed the support of the home crowds.
He said: “The Glasgow crowd was incredible and really made my week. It was such a great experience being back in the Tollcross pool and every time I walked out on to the pool side I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face as the crowd cheered for me.
“Regardless of my results I know I put in a really consistent year of work, which I am very proud of, and it is going to be the background for the next couple of years in the run up to the 2020 Olympics season.”
We are looking forward to keeping track of Ross in the build up to the next Olympics.
